Can I buy a PI IPv4 block from you?

Accepted Answer

No, and not from anyone else either: the RIPE NCC no longer issues new PI IPv4 assignments. We sponsor an existing block — one you already hold or are receiving through a transfer.

Why do you ask for two peering partners for an ASN?

That is how the RIPE form works: it needs at least two partner ASNs with a contact address for each, plus your routing policy. Without them the request is not accepted, so we ask upfront.

Question 3

Where do I find those two partners?

Accepted Answer

The easiest answer is your upstreams: if you buy transit from two providers, those are your two partners.  We can be one of them: take a server from us, we set up a BGP session and announce your prefix — then you only need to find the second one.  Other options: an internet exchange with its route servers, and providers that hand out BGP over a tunnel, some of them free.  The session does not have to be up when the request is filed — an agreement is enough. Do warn your partners: the RIPE NCC may write and ask them to confirm, and silence will hold the request up.

How do I move to you from another LIR?

The resource stays yours, only the sponsor changes. We submit the agreement signed with you to the RIPE NCC and they notify your previous LIR. If that LIR objects, your confirmation that the old agreement is terminated will be required.

Question 5

What IPv6 PI size do you get?

Accepted Answer

The default is a /48. Anything larger needs justification per site. Note that a PI block is for your own infrastructure — you cannot sub-assign prefixes from it to customers.

Question 6

Prices are in euro but the invoice is in dollars — why?

Accepted Answer

The RIPE NCC bills in euro, so quoting in euro is the honest figure. The invoice in your cabinet is issued in dollars at the current rate, like everything else in our billing.
